Background
Every camera lens produces more or less severe image deficiencies. Even with
the most rigid production methods these deficiencies can not be eliminated
completely.
In general the following rules apply
- The smaller the camera‘s format the larger the deficiencies
- The wider the lens angle the larger the deficiencies
This implies that with proliferation of digital SLRs the phenomenon of
image deficiencies had to increase and actually has increased. Existing
products in the market confirm the need but from a professional perspective
do not represent a satisfactory solution.
The Acolens Correction Method
The Acolens correction method is based on mathematical variance analysis
in the areas distortion, vignetting and lack of focus toward the image‘s
edges. In a first step so-called profiles are generated with
the Acolens Reference Chart based
on focal length and aperture of the lens. The software‘s algorithms then calculate
the actual and desired values for the eventual correction of the profile.
This profile correction process is then simply applied to any image taken
with the according lense and focal/aperture settings.
